Control Siri/Voice Control Without Using Your Hands With HandsFreeControl

0

A new Cydia tweak called Hands-Free Control was released by Brock Haymond and what exactly makes this tweak awesome? We have all the details and you’ll be thanking us once it’s installed onto your device! First on the list is how Hands-Free Control lets you activate Siri or voice control without having to hold down the home button for a couple of seconds upon asking for a request.

When the tweak is installed on your phone, by simply saying “Siri,” voice control or Siri will be activated. As of now, this tweak is only compatible with iPhones 3GS/4 and iPods 3G and 4G because there is no jailbreak for the iPhone 4s just yet. But Hands-Free Control developer, Brock Haymond stated that once the iPhone 4S can be jailbroken, this feature will automatically work because voice control and Siri have similar resources.

Settings can be configured on your device ranging from easiness to activate this feature to controlling vibrations and system sounds. A few concerns about this tweak is how easily it will pick up background noises/words and take them as commands- you don’t have to worry because in the settings configuration, strictness and looseness of the verification system can be controlled. Setting it to “loose” means that it’s easy to accidentally activate voice control or Siri. But if the setting is on “strict,” then your device will be more picky with the words you use to activate it. The feature on Hands-Free Control can be adjusted according to when you would like to use it- therefore it won’t be a program that will continuously run if you didn’t want it to. A downside to this tweak though is whenever it is enabled, you will definitely see a drop in battery percentage because you are straining your device- since it will be listening in the background for your voice and commands. But the good thing about it is that you can enable and disable it whenever you’d like as mentioned above.

Hands-Free Control can be downloaded on Cydia from the BigBoss repo for $1.99 (I would buy it now if you’d like to try it out- the price will increase later on). DO NOTE that this does NOT install “Siri” on your device- it is simply used FOR users who have Siri pre-installed (and now iPhone 4 users who install it) and for voice control. Therefore, if you already HAVE Siri- it’ll work, but if you DO NOT, then it’ll work for voice control.

Sn0wbreeze 2.8b9 Released To Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Beta

0

As we reported previously, the Dev-Team rolled out the updated redsn0w 0.9.9b8 which adds support for iOS 5.0.1 Beta. Apple’s iOS 5.0.1 Beta was released fixing numerous security bugs and the iPhone 4S battery problem in iOS 5. Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 is available for both Windows and Mac users and can be used to deliver a tethered jailbreak to the user. iOS 5 currently has a Semi-tether available compliments of BigBoss which is currently compatible with iOS 5.0.1 Beta; it has been confirmed.

We’re happy to report that Windows users can choose to use more than redsn0w 0.9.9b8 to jailbreak their iOS 5/iOS 5.0.1 Beta devices today. A while ago, iH8sn0w tweeted that he had released sn0wbreeze 2.8b9. Sn0wbreeze is an alternative to Redsn0w in that it offers an easy-to-use GUI. Much of it is eye-candy and someone who is new to the jailbreak scene might prefer sn0wbreeze over redsn0w because of the graphical interface versus plain text. In my opinion, sn0wbreeze’s graphical interface and animations make it easier to understand what is going on when you read the directions, where redsn0w doesn’t have anything to show you what to do; it just hands you directions.

Sn0wbreeze isn’t available for Mac. Windows users can download sn0wbreeze 2.8b9 below. Simply unzip the file that you download to find the sn0wbreeze.exe file. Furthermore, you can download older versions of sn0wbreeze here if you need to.

iH8sn0w included a Pastie which can be read here of the changes in this new version of sn0wbreeze.

Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 Released – Jailbreaks iOS 5.0.1 Beta

3

Apple recently pushed out the iOS 5.0.1 Beta to developers which has fixed numerous bugs in iOS 5 and brings the beloved multitasking gestures back to the original iPad. It was reported that iOS 5.0.1 could have been jailbroken with redsn0w 0.9.9b7, although you would need to point redsn0w to the iOS 5.0 firmware file, and the jailbreak was tethered.

Because the IPSW isn’t public, you’ll still need to provide it once to redsn0w (at which point it will cache all the important pieces so you don’t need to select it again).

For those iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 users who preserve their baseband, the Mac version can also produce the NO_BB_* custom IPSW’s for 5.0.1. (But please note that ultrasn0w doesn’t get updated for betas like this.)

This is still a tethered jailbreak for all except old-bootrom 3GS users.

This new update brings support for the iOS 5.0.1 Beta. Now if you have the iOS 5.0.1 Beta firmware on your computer, you can use redsn0w 0.9.9b8 and point redsn0w to your iOS 5.0.1 Beta firmware. The jailbreak method is the same for the iOS 5 jailbreak using redsn0w 0.9.9b7 and the jailbreak is still tethered as of this point. If a tethered jailbreak does not suit you well, then you have the option to install the Semi-Tether which allows you to boot up your iPhone into a non-jailbroken state after rebooting; you will be able to boot tethered later on to get your jailbreak data back up and running. Or, if you’re more patient, you can keep waiting for the untethered jailbreak that i0n1c confirmed was being worked on.

iPhone 3GS users can still have the untethered jailbreak if they have the old bootrom, and Mac users can still make their special baseband custom ISPW files using this redsn0w for iOS 5.0.1. The Dev-Team also warns that ultrasn0w will not be updated for the beta, so it’s recommended that you wait until the official iOS 5.0.1 release to the public.

Chpwn Reveals Custom Commands Work For Siri

0

Popular iOS developer Grant Paul (more widely known as @chpwn) recently revealed via a tweet, that he was able to concoct custom commands in Siri. What this discovery really does is prove that Siri can prove to be a more complex and more useful tool than it already is. The ability to create custom commands that function with Siri can open an endless array of possibilities.

The custom commands can lead to a slew of new jailbreak tweaks and packages that could provide further convenience to a number of iPhone 4S users (possibly iPhone 4 users and maybe iPhone 3GS users, if the port comes to fruition). The Siri port won’t be publicly released until further notice due to the whole legality of the issue.

As of right now, it hasn’t been made clear whether the custom commands will see the light of day but chances are they might upon the release of the iPhone 4S (and iPad 2) jailbreak. MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team recently showed proof of  preliminary jailbreak for the A5 chip based iOS devices but has not provided an ETA, so we’ll continue to have to be patient.

In the meantime, we can’t help but be excited about the plethora of innovative ideas that custom commands in Siri could lead to. What custom commands would you like to see? Are you excited? Share any thoughts and ideas below!

iOS 5.0.1 Beta Seeded – Can Be Jailbroken Via RedSn0w (Confirmed)

2

Earlier today Apple seeded iOS 5.0.1 beta to developers. This update on the iOS firmware is said to fix a few bugs and enhance performance. Amongst the issues the update addresses are the iPhone 4S battery issues, the iPad 2 smart cover security flaw, and multitasking gestures for the original iPad.

If you happen to be a jailbreaker who couldn’t resist the urge of updating to the new beta firmware, we have some good news for you. MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team has recently tweeted that the latest version of RedSn0w (RedSN0w 0.9.9 beta 7) can jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 beta. All you need to do is to point the RedSn0w 0.9.9 b7 to the iOS 5 IPSW (not the iOS 5.0.1 beta IPSW). We assume that the iPhone Dev team will update RedSn0w as soon as or possibly even before iOS 5.0.1 beta is released to the public.

As usual, this is a tethered jailbreak which means that you will need to connect your iOS device to your computer and use the “Just Boot” option in RedSn0w to restart your iPhone. Following the convention of the previous jailbreaks, the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2 are  not compatible . The semi-tether is also available although as of right now, unconfirmed.

Stay tuned for more info!

Accept Or Decline Calls Easily On Your iPhone With EZDecline

0

Has it ever bothered you when someone was trying to call you and in order to answer the call, you have to “slide to answer?” Or were you ever in a position where you have no free hands and get a phone call but have to slide the button in order to answer the call? Don’t you just wish you could always have the option to “answer” or “decline” a phone call like you can when you’re not in lock screen mode? Well today is your lucky day because we are here to introduce a jailbreak tweak that allows you to do just that.

This jailbreak tweak released by John Heaton has been around for a while now, but was only fully updated to work with iOS 5 recently. EZDecline gives you the option to either “answer” or “decline” an incoming call straight from the lock screen. It gets rid of the “slide to answer” and definitely makes your life 10x easier! No more getting embarrassed because you forgot to turn your device to “silent mode” and your ringtone Hot in Herre is playing on full blast at a ceremony- meanwhile the only way you could make it stop is by pressing the sleep button. All you have to do with EZDecline installed, is simply press the decline button and your ringtone will stop within seconds and the call will be forwarded to voicemail.

EZDecline can be downloaded on Cydia from the BigBoss repo for only 99¢. Once the tweak is installed, all you have to do is respring your device (without the need to restart your phone) and it’ll be activated. It is now version 2.0 and is compatible with all jailbroken iOS 4 AND iOS 5 devices.

Have you downloaded this tweak yet? If so, how much easier is it then the original “slide to answer” feature? If you haven’t yet, will you be looking into it? Let us know below!

Clear Your Lock Screen Info With ClearLockNotification’s

0

Always find your device piled up with a lot of notifications on iOS 5? ClearLockNotifications will help solve your problems and it has a similar concept to NCQuickDismiss- both tweaks by moeseth. But one big difference between the two is that on ClearLockNotifications, you dismiss notifications right from the lock screen whereas with NCQuickDismiss, you can only dismiss banner notifications once past the lock screen.

Once ClearLockNotifications is activated, notifications can be cleared by tapping a slider button right from the lock screen. When tapped, an “X” will appear showing the amount of notifications you have and when you press the “X” all notifications will be cleared. Easy right? The only downside to this tweak is that you can’t clear each notification individually. You either don’t clear any off the lock screen, or you clear it all at once. Since it is only version 1.0-1, we’re sure improvements will happen over time, so no worries.

If you are interested in this tweak, head on over to Cydia and download it now! Its free of charge and is compatible with all iOS 5 devices.

What do you think of this tweak? Which do you prefer- ClearLockNotifications or NCQuickDismiss? Let us know below!
